Guest Artist Spotlight: @tolerable_arts
We’re thrilled to welcome Ryan! A Raleigh, North Carolina native and tattoo artist at 401 Tattoo Arts & Antiquities with over four years of professional experience. Joining us as a guest artist, he specializes in illustrative black and grey tattooing with a passion for creating custom pieces through close collaboration with his clients.
Before tattooing, Ryan worked in EMS. While he found fulfillment caring for others, the pandemic gave him the opportunity to pursue the creative career he’d always envisioned. After completing an extensive apprenticeship in 2022, he’s continued refining his craft and developing a style that’s both artistic and built to last.
Ryan’s work focuses on illustrative black and grey, blending fine line, bold blackwork, and stipple shading to create high-contrast, long-lasting tattoos. He’s also experienced in American Traditional, Neo-Traditional, Japanese-inspired, and floral work, and enjoys combining unexpected subjects and styles into unique custom designs—from samurai frogs to Frankenstein portraits and everything in between.
Above all, Ryan believes a great tattoo starts with a great experience. Known for his approachable, easygoing personality, he strives to make every client feel comfortable from consultation through the finished tattoo, whether it’s their first piece or their fiftieth.
When he’s not tattooing, you’ll usually find Ryan talking about new music, horror movies, or anything hockey. If you’ve been thinking about your next tattoo, now’s the perfect opportunity to book while he’s in town.
